I can’t believe that the 4th of July is just around the corner! Fireworks are the perfect finish to a day full of family fun, parades, cookouts, and perhaps a day at the beach.
Salem NH is having their fireworks on July 4th behind the high school on Geremonty Drive at 9:15 PM. For other locations around the state you can click here.
To plan your day and make sure that you are prepared, here are some helpful tips:
Prepare the kids and plan an escape route – Fireworks are loud and attract large crowds. It is usually worth it to park a little ways away and walk, so that you don’t have to deal with the heavy traffic when leaving. Sometimes the noise from the crowds and the fireworks scare children. If you aren’t sure how the kids will respond, try to locate yourself towards the edge of the crowd so that you can have a quick getaway if necessary.
It’s often best to show up early to get the best seats – make sure that you have plenty of things on hand to keep the kids busy while you wait for the fireworks to begin. If you choose this option, be prepared to wait a little while after the fireworks for the crowds and traffic to clear out.
Safety first! Fireworks and large crowds can be dangerous! Make sure that you keep the kids under a close eye. Lots of times there are sparklers hanging around and they need to be kept away from the face, clothing and hair. Make very sure that the kids don’t attempt to pick up a “discarded” firecracker. It may not have exploded and might just do that in the hand of your child.
Dress Appropriately – Even though summer days may be warm, the temperatures can drop quickly after the sun goes down. Make sure that you bring something warm so that you will be comfortable. Don’t forget the long pants! The bugs come out after the sun goes down so make sure that you aren’t dinner for the mosquitoes! Wear long sleeves and long pants and bring the insect repellent!
Wishing you a safe and happy 4th of July!
