Take a Sail on the New Portsmouth, NH Gundalow – Piscataqua

Jul 4, 2012 | Nancy Winthrop | Categories : NH News and Events | 3 Comments

The sun shone brightly in Portsmouth, NH as the sails of the new gundalow called PISCATAQUA filled with wind and we were off for a morning sail up the river. There are morning, afternoon and evening sails up and down the Piscataqua river leaving from Prescott Park. Public sails are available from Thursday through Monday. Sunset sails are from 6:00 until 8:00 at this time of year. They will be earlier as we move toward autumn.  On Thursday evenings there are musical groups and educational speakers. A schedule is available on the Gundalow Company website.

You may have seen the Piscataqua being built last year at Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth NH by ship builders and volunteers as part of the Gundalow Company’s project of creating a ship like those used as the tractor-trailers of the historic seacoast waterways. As you travel up or down the river, you will hear about the maritime history of our region and the need to preserve the estuaries that flow into the ocean.

What a great closing gift for clients new to our area. See website for membership levels and cruise costs.

I spent last evening on this boat and I highly recommend it. It is a great way to travel down the River! check it out at http://www.gundalow.org You may even luck out and see my Dad as one of the crew members!

Friends please like this article or share it with your friends. Many people including my Dad worked very hard to build this boat. It is now a great place to enjoy the river and we need to expand the reach. If you could share this with your friends I would appreciate it! We are really trying to let everyone know this new opportunity in Portsmouth!
